ISM / ISO Lead Auditor

The ISM / ISO Lead Auditor course looks at the skills, traits and understanding necessary to audit against ISM or any of the 66 Type “A” ISO Management systems. It also looks at how standards are built and designed, how to gather evidence of compliance, and the process of conducting audits, surveys and inspections.

Description

The ISM/ISO Lead Auditor course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills, traits, and knowledge required to perform effective audits against the ISM Code (International Safety Management) or any of the 66 Type “A” ISO Management Systems. This comprehensive training focuses on developing a thorough understanding of the auditing process, from preparation and evidence gathering to conducting audits, inspections, and surveys.

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of how international standards are constructed and designed, including the principles that underpin their development. This includes exploring the frameworks and methodologies used to ensure that standards are robust, applicable across industries, and align with best practices in quality, environmental, health and safety, and risk management.

The course provides step-by-step guidance on planning and executing audits. This includes learning how to interpret the requirements of ISM and ISO Management Standards, assessing compliance, and identifying non-conformities. Participants will develop the ability to gather and evaluate objective evidence, such as documentation, records, and on-site observations, to ensure organisations meet the required standards.

Practical aspects of the course focus on the skills and behaviours necessary for a lead auditor, such as effective communication, active listening, analytical thinking, and decision-making. Participants will explore techniques for managing audit teams, maintaining impartiality, and ensuring the audit process is conducted with integrity and professionalism.
